Modern physics, echoing ancient teachings like Hermeticism, suggests that nothing is at rest; everything moves, everything vibrates. Within this grand cosmic theater, the universe resounds as a harmonious symphony of vibrating elements. Here, time assumes a crucial role, orchestrating a grand cohesive narrative that intricately links the oscillating components of the universe in a harmonious dance of interconnected relations.

So, what exactly is Time? Physics informs us that the concept of time is derived from observing periodic processes such as atomic radiation, sound wave vibrations, or the Earth’s rotation.  How might we conceptualize the most basic mathematical model of time? At its core, the simplest representation of time involves periodic processes and their respective frequency ratios.  Among the ancient civilizations, the Sumerians stood out for their profound understanding of time. As astute observers of planetary motions, they laid the foundation for our present-day time units.

Our goal is to craft an abstract mathematical model of Time for the proto-universe, rooted in periodic processes. Subsequently, we’ll illustrate how this model deciphers the enigma of the Sumerians’ Sacred Numbers, particularly those associated with time measurement.


The Foundational Model of Time

Our initial approach will involve conceptualizing a proto-universe orchestrated through the interplay of merely four distinct, yet synchronized, discrete periodic processes. Central to our framework is the “atoms of time”, representing the smallest discernible units of time within the context of comparing two processes. Intriguingly, there are traces that suggest the Greeks once conceived time in a similar atomic fashion, employing the term “atom” as an indicator of the smallest conceivable unit of time

Imagine a process with the highest possible frequency, creating the smallest conceivable time period. This smallest period becomes our “atom of time.” For slower processes, we multiply this atomic period by numbers like 2, 3, and so on. This atom of time, being indivisible, has just one phase which we can label as ‘A’.  A process that takes twice as long can be broken down into two phases:  B and C.  A third, longer process would have phases D, E, and F, and this progression continues as we look at processes that are sequential integers in length: 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. The Temporal Palette serves as a map delineating the various phases of the periodic processes we are examining. Here is a visualization of the temporal palette of form (1, 2, 3, 4).  In this example, I chose to use letters of the alphabet. However, since the temporal palette merely maps out discrete periodic processes, it can be assembled using any set of symbols or signs that you prefer.

We can think of time as an array of these processes, each defined by a different integer length. The temporal palette paves the way for a symphony of concurrent processes, weaving together the temporal tapestry. The foundational architecture of time is essentially a dynamic canvas illustrating concurrent process alterations. Consider processes spanning by temporal palette (1, 2, 3, 4). Their culmination points are staggered, demanding 1, 2, 3, and 4 atomic periods respectively. To visualize this, we’ll transform the triangle temporal palette into a rectangular graph depicting these processes unfolding concurrently, a concept I’ve dubbed the Temporal Tapestry. This synchronization paints the very fabric of time.

We are focusing on identifying a time span during which all processes come to a harmonious conclusion. In the case of processes with periods of 1, 2, 3, and 4, this convergence occurs over a span of 12 atomic periods. Post 12 cycles, this pattern is replicated.  To encapsulate the cyclical nature of these processes accurately, the temporal tapestry can be transposed into a circular format, giving birth to the Timewheel.

For clarity, I’ve removed the atomic layer labeled “A” that does not contain any alterations. Upon closer inspection of the patterns on this timewheel, the Zodiac sign classifications are evident. The inner circle differentiates between positive and negative zodiac signs, the outer circle groups zodiac signs by elements, while the central circle categorizes them as cardinal, mutable, or fixed.

In the realm of Hermetic philosophy, the Zodiac is perceived as a foundational pattern that echoes through the very fabric of the cosmos. This remarkable schema seemingly finds its mathematical echo in a modest yet profound model of time — one characterized by four synchronous processes mirrored in the harmonious structure of the Pythagorean Tetractys.

This remarkable alignment, coupled with the ancient Greek conception of the atom as a fundamental unit of time and the significant emphasis placed on Zodiac patterns by Greek philosophers, hints at a deeper connection. It proposes the tantalizing idea that the time model we are exploring could potentially have been a closely guarded secret amongst the Pythagorean circles, serving as a nexus where science meets spirituality in a dance of numbers and celestial patterns.


The Temporal Tapestry: A Gateway to Understanding Sumerian Numbers

We can explore temporal palettes of various sizes. Take, for instance, a temporal palette in the form of (1, 2, 3), which yields a corresponding temporal tapestry with a length of 6:

By generating a timewheel from the temporal tapestry, we will uncover a hexagonal pattern:

Explore the intricate patterns embedded within this timewheel. When you endeavor to link letters of identical type through linear connections, you uncover three axes and two interconnected triangles. 

There might be a multitude of reasons why the number six held a revered position among the Sumerians as a fundamental numeral. The six days of Biblical creation could potentially signify the hexagon as the primary structural element in the cosmic blueprint. In the intricate world of Hermetic philosophy, a tradition steeped in the recognition of patterns and analogies, this unique structure holds a potential role as a blueprint in the crafting of three-dimensional space. Here, the hexagonal pattern emerges not merely as a geometric figure, but as a pivotal element within the Grid of Life – a vibrant matrix born from the harmonious convergence of lines connecting the vertices of the revered Flower of Life, weaving together the threads of existence in a seamless tapestry. 

In our framework, the number 6 and the hexagonal pattern naturally emerge from the interplay of three periodic processes represented by the temporal palette of the form (1, 2, 3). The revelation of a hexagonal pattern in our foundational time model marks a pivotal breakthrough, uncovering an intricate, synchronic web that permeates the universe. It refreshes our understanding of the intricate interplay between time and space, renewing our appreciation for the captivating flow of existence that echoes age-old Hermetic principles.

By expanding the temporal palette to include longer processes, both the temporal tapestry and its associated timewheel evolve.

The length of the period in a temporal tapestry is the smallest number divisible by every number included in the temporal palette. 

Consider the temporal palette (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

Incorporating a process with a duration of five atomic units culminates in a complete cycle realized in 60 steps. Subsequent inclusion of a process with a periodicity of 6 maintains the 60-step cycle.

Evolving the temporal palette further to encompass the sequence (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) results in a temporal tapestry with a length of 168, which coincidentally aligns with the number of hours in a week. 

It’s widely held that our current timekeeping system traces its origins back to the Sumerians.  We observe 12 months in a year, 12 hours in a day, and 60 minutes in an hour. Our Foundational Model of Time explains the choice of key numbers for dividing periods of time. Herein lies the rationale behind the Sumerians’ adoption of the numbers 12, and 60 as time measurement units and their reverence for number 6. These numbers crystallize naturally from the structured development of a time model built upon a sequence of processes with incrementally increasing periods  (1, 2, 3), (1, 2, 3, 4),  (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), etc. The number 6, which was revered by the Sumerians, marks the final entry in the palette, represented as (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) which yields a length of 60 cycles of time. This temporal palette forms a triangle with sides of length 6, creating a fascinating symbolic association with the number 666.

This exploration has allowed us to derive nearly all the foundational divisions of time from the lengths of various temporal tapestries, depicted as count sequences from 1 to N. An exception is the number 24, which aligns with a temporal palette structured as (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8). Here is a concise summary of time measurements and corresponding temporal palettes:

We initiated our exploration by defining time as a relation of the frequency of periodic processes. By envisaging a universe composed of four synchronous processes with periods denoted by integers 1, 2, 3, and 4, we managed to reconstruct a pattern reminiscent of the Zodiac. As we increased the number of concurrently running synchronous processes, we identified all the significant numbers associated with the measurement of time.

Thus, through rigorous and calculated deductive reasoning, we managed to resurrect the Sumerians’ intricate conception of time.

We began with a foundational postulate: The Universe is a symphony of periodic vibrations. Time serves as the maestro, orchestrating the coherence of these processes. Guided by this insight, we embarked on a mission to forge representations of simple universes, characterized by 3, 4, 6, and 8 rhythmic processes. In doing so, we uncovered all the essential numbers pivotal in the measurement of time.   

The Temporal Tapestry: The Quintessential Key to Sacred Numerology

To construct a temporal palette that produces a temporal tapestry of a designated length N, one must enumerate all the divisors of N. This methodology finds its most profound application when applied to the study of highly composite numbers.

Intriguingly, numbers like 6, 12, 60, and others extending to 108, 144, 360, 432, 720, and 864 (sometimes with additional zeros) seem to articulate a kind of secret language, appearing prominently in larger time cycles such as the Platonic year, measurements pertaining to Earth and celestial entities, and even in calculating the angular sums in Platonic solids. How can we understand the significance of those numbers? We may attempt to craft temporal pallets to better understand the meaning of those sacred numbers. For instance, the number 360 is the length of the temporal tapestry derived from the temporal palette (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10) representing a sequence of processes with lengths encapsulating all integers from 1 to 10, barring 7. 

The process of crafting a temporal palette and  tapestry corresponding to a specific number establishes a profound connection between that number and time itself.

We have observed the manner in which the temporal palette, characterized by the sequence (1, 2, 3, 4), aligns with the number 12, unveiling the intricate patterns of the Zodiac.  I further found that multiple temporal tapestries offer a multitude of interesting patterns. Each respective temporal tapestry or timewheel intricately unravels the patterns embodied by numbers corresponding to their length, paving a novel pathway in the field of Sacred Numerology.

I can assert with conviction that the Temporal Palette, Temporal Tapestry, and Timewheel serve as the quintessential keys to unveiling the profound secrets embedded in perennial wisdom.

Conclusion

A notable aspect of this investigation is the unveiling of three Hermetic symbols: the Temporal Palette, the Temporal Tapestry, and the Timewheel. These symbols seemingly have roots deep in antiquity, at least as far back as Sumerian times. It is highly probable that these were known to a select circle of learned individuals. I conjecture that the underlying essence of the concept of time is concealed within the Pythagorean Tetractys. Utilizing the decryption techniques popularized by Alan Green on his BardCode channel, one can uncover this model hidden within Shakespeare’s Sonnet 116 (misspelled as 119 in the original edition).

That being said, bringing the Temporal Palette, the Temporal Tapestry, and the Timewheel to the modern-day audience in a lucid and vibrant manner is of considerable significance. Our preliminary insights suggest the possibility of groundbreaking revelations related to ancient measures of time and space, with these symbols serving as hermetic keys to decipher the cosmic enigmas.
